Tattershall Castle

Restaurant | London | England | United Kingdom

"Tattershall Castle" is an extraordinary restaurant and pub located in London, England, anchored on a historic ship on the River Thames, offering a unique blend of British cuisine, stunning views, and a lively atmosphere. It is ideally situated between the Westminster and Embankment underground stations, directly opposite the London Eye, attracting a colorful mix of tourists, locals, and businesspeople seeking something special. The ship, originally a passenger ferry from 1934 that operated on the Humber, was decommissioned after World War II and brought to London in 1975, where it has served as a pub and restaurant since 1982. This maritime history lends the venue a distinctive character that fascinatingly connects the past with the present.

The atmosphere at "Tattershall Castle" is versatile and inviting, with various areas, each exuding its own charm. The upper deck features an open terrace with spectacular views of the Thames, the London Eye, and the Houses of Parliament – a perfect spot for dining or enjoying a drink in good weather. Inside, there are several rooms, including the "Wardroom," an elegant dining area with large windows and cozy furnishings, as well as the "Lounge," which entices with comfortable seating and a relaxed ambiance. For special occasions, there are the "Stateroom" and the "Bridge" area, both of which create an intimate atmosphere. The rooms are air-conditioned and decorated with nautical details that remind guests of the ship's history. On weekends, the lower deck often transforms into a lively scene with live music or DJ sets, adding extra energy to the venue.

Culinary offerings at "Tattershall Castle" showcase classic British cuisine with modern twists, focusing on fresh, seasonal ingredients. A highlight is the "Fish and Chips," featuring freshly caught fish in a crispy batter served with thick, golden chips – a dish that reflects the maritime tradition of the establishment and is often praised as one of the best in London. The "Steak and Ale Pie" is also popular, a hearty dish with tender meat in a rich gravy, encased in a perfectly baked crust, served with creamy mashed potatoes. For a lighter option, the "Grilled Sea Bass" is enhanced with herbs and a light lemon butter, adding an elegant touch to the menu. Desserts are not to be missed, with the "Sticky Toffee Pudding" standing out – warm, sweet, and drizzled with a rich caramel sauce, it offers a delightful finish that many guests love.

The drink selection is another highlight of the experience. "Tattershall Castle" offers a wide range of draft beers, including local and British classics that pair perfectly with the hearty dishes. The cocktail menu is creative, featuring signature drinks like the "Thames Mule," a zesty variation of the Moscow Mule with a hint of British gin. For wine lovers, there is a carefully curated list that complements the food harmoniously. The option to take advantage of special offers during Happy Hour is particularly popular, making the experience even more attractive. Non-alcoholic options, such as homemade lemonade, are also available, providing a refreshing alternative.

The restaurant prides itself on its versatility, offering more than just food – it is a venue that hosts regular events like comedy nights in collaboration with the Boat Show, taking place several days a week, as well as monthly jazz evenings and pub quiz events. These activities attract a lively crowd, making "Tattershall Castle" a cultural meeting point. The ship's maritime past is kept alive through small details like merchandise items – including hoodies and t-shirts – that guests can take home as souvenirs.

The staff is known for their friendliness and efficiency, with service often provided through a practical app that speeds things up – a modern touch that is well received. However, on busy days, such as during major events like New Year’s Eve or in good weather, it can get crowded, occasionally leading to wait times. Nonetheless, this is often accepted as part of the vibrant atmosphere. "Tattershall Castle" is more than just a restaurant – it is an experience that combines British hospitality with a unique location and a touch of history. Whether for lunch with a view of the Thames, dinner before a theater show, or a night filled with entertainment – this place offers an unforgettable backdrop for any occasion.

We went on 23 February as a group of 8 of our family for an anniversary celebration. We asked for a specific view from the ship's restaurant when we booked on line and this was given to us. Perfect for what we wanted. Service was great. Staff were polite, attentive and very accommodating as we had a toddler with us. Food was delivered hot and we were made to feel extremely welcome. Food choice was varied and as a Sunday, roasts were offered. The food we had was excellent and we chose a variety of different options from roast dinners, to steak, starters, sharers and children's food. Hot, tasty and good sized potion for everyone. Cannot fault the quality of the food or the prices considering the amazing views, location on the Thames and being in the heart of London. We have paid more in pubs outside of London. I cannot say how wonderful an experience it was and we will definitely be back. Thank.you all at the Tattershall for making our day so special.

No presten atención a la entrada del barco, ya que no es nada bonita ni llamativa. Pero el salon del restaurante es muy ameno y acogedor, buen servicio, y delicioso el plato de fish & chips. Muy buena preparación. Recomendado!

I’m giving Tattershall a 2 for the food and the view I had from my table, if it wasn’t for that it would be a 1… Even then to put that into perspective the food was just slightly better than what you’d get from a Wetherspoons which looking back on i’d have wished I went there instead. Upon arrival the bouncer was hostile and sort of strange, he didn’t say a single word to me until I appeared visibly confused on where the restaurant was located within the boat. The restaurant itself was musty to say the least, it felt very unhygienic & icky. Upon arrival the waiter who dealt with me & my partner was unable to initially find our booking on their system. The way he came across was as if my partner was lying about having one (bare in mind this is no Michelin star restaurant) Once my partner showed the reservation from his own phone, we were taken to where we was supposed to be seated. Upon being shown our table 2 men that stunk & looked homeless had moved our reservation sign & were sat comfortably as if it was there booking. They took about 10 minutes to move from our table & once they did the waiter didn’t wipe down the table nor did they even give us clean cutlery. My partner had to go and get us cutlery from another table & ask the staff to wipe where we were sitting which was done very half heartedly. The menu I was given had disgusting food or whatever it may be all over it.. I didn’t wanna touch it with my bare hands. The service is terrible, the people who worked there seemed miserable other than a guy with longer hair who was okay but just like the others, barely attentive to customers needs. At this point my partner didn’t really wanna stay but it was quite late & we didn’t know where else to go so I told him we’ll just stick it out. The waiter who took our order was snarky and weird, he made a joke about how much food we were ordering (A starter & a main each) which made me feel really uncomfortable. Anyway, the starters ended up coming out quickly & they were piping hot so that is a bonus. The prawns were nice & my favourite thing that I ate. The chicken wings on the other hand had basically no meat on them, it was just crispy skin & were not nice so I left those to my partner who agreed with me. The mains which were 2 burgers & fries took a while to come out and as I mentioned earlier were very comparable to a whether spoons meal, nothing special at all for the prices you pay. The atmosphere of the place is weird. It’s very run down which is a shame because for the location & novelty of the whole eating on a boat in front of the London Eye on the Thames they could do so much more with it. We didn’t stay around after our meal we left quite quickly, the music was dead loud and not in a good way, it was just a lot of cheesy pop music that was overly loud for no reason. The crowds of people there all seemed to be the same sorts.. just weirdos. The toilets were absolutely disgusting & if I wasn’t desperate to pee I wouldn’t have used them at all. £95 for a bog standard meal for 2 people & that’s not including if we were to get any alcoholic beverages because we just had soft drinks. I would not go back nor would I recommend it to anyone in that area.

Had a fab evening on Saturday 8th Feb -14 of us celebrating a very special occasion. We had a great table in the restaurant by the window with a view of the London Eye. It's a brilliant location... as well as the London Eye there's Big Ben in the background. We took some great photos on deck! The staff were really lovely... bar staff, wait staff, security staff (smiley and welcoming) and the manager even turned up to say 'hello' on his day off. Decent prices for food and drinks, especially for London and considering it's special location. Discovered that they also do comedy nights 'below deck' and judging by the photos on the wall I'd say it's well worth trying out. Will definitely be back next time I'm in London!

Good foot and drink, ruined by disastrously slow service. Needs some sort of app ordering system as there are never enough barmen at the till. Real shame, could be a good pub.

Decent boat pub in the Thames. Great pricing and great views of the Millenium wheel. Well worth a visit if you are on the Thames wandering around.
